MercuryPak Scrubber
Advanced Mercury Removal Technology That Meets the World’s Most Stringent Regulations
EnviroCare’s MercuryPak Scrubber is an advanced mercury removal system designed to meet the most stringent mercury emission regulations worldwide. Developed in partnership with W.L. Gore, the MercuryPak utilizes Sorbent Polymer Composite (SPC) mercury removal materials to capture both elemental and oxidized mercury from flue gas streams.
These systems consistently achieve mercury emissions below the US EPA regulatory limit of 37 μg/dscm @ 7% O₂ for existing source fluidized bed incinerators and can be configured to meet new source limits of 1.0 μg/dscm @ 7% O₂. Since 2015, EnviroCare has installed more than 20 MercuryPak Scrubber systems, primarily serving the municipal Sewage Sludge Incineration (SSI) market.
The MercuryPak Scrubber offers flexible installation options: as a standalone vessel, integrated into an advanced VenturiPak scrubber or integrated into an acid gas wet scrubber. A smaller polishing design is also available to enhance the performance of upstream carbon injection or granular activated carbon (GAC) systems.
How The System Works
Gas Contact
Flue gas enters the MercuryPak module, where it passes through corrugated Sorbent Polymer Composite (SPC) material designed for low pressure drop and maximum gas contact.
Mercury Adsorption
The SPC material continuously adsorbs both elemental and oxidized mercury from the gas stream without requiring chemical injection or regeneration.
SO₂ Reduction
The system simultaneously reduces sulfur dioxide (SO₂) levels, providing dual pollutant control in a single module.
Clean Gas Discharge
Treated gas exits the MercuryPak with mercury concentrations reduced to meet regulatory limits, ready for discharge or further treatment.
Module Replacement
SPC modules provide two to five years of service life with consistent performance throughout their lifespan. Spent modules are easily removed and disposed of without special handling requirements.
